Married to George.
I moved to Okewood Hill, just outside Ockley, in 2008. I read about the Ockley Dramatic Society on the village website before moving to the area. I didn't really consider joining at the time, as I'd never done any amateur dramatics or acting before. But it was clear that Ockley had a lively social calendar and a real village community atmosphere, that I was very keen to be a part of.
A few months after moving to the area, our neighbour invited us round for dinner. She sheepishly told us that she was playing the fairy godmother in this year's pantomime. A casual mention that they were still looking for an Arabian Dancing Girl and I was in! Although I'd never acted, I danced all the way through my childhood so (to everyone's surprise) I couldn't wait to get up on stage and do a belly dance!
I am so glad that my neighbour invited us round for dinner that day. The 2009 pantomime was so much fun - as well as thoroughly enjoying dancing, singing and acting, I got the chance to help with costumes, teaching the kids their dances, painting the set and baking lots of cakes for rehearsals! It's great how everyone can get involved in as much as they want to, even if you're not that good at things, because it's all about getting to know a lovely bunch of people and having a good laugh. And the sell-out performances in 2009 suggest that the output is not too bad at all!
